Maura Delpero is an Italian director and screenwriter, born on October 3, 1975, in Bolzano. She studied Literature in Bologna and Paris, and Dramaturgy in Buenos Aires.
She began her career working as an assistant on the film “Le ferie di Licu” in Bangladesh, before directing her first documentary, “Moglie e buoi dei paesi tuoi” in 2005. Among her most notable works are the documentary “Signori professori” (2008), which won several awards, and the medium-length film “Nadea e Sveta” (2012), which received a special mention at the Premio Solinas and the Premio Cipputi at the Torino Film Festival.
Her first feature film, “Maternal” (2019), received international recognition, winning awards at festivals such as Locarno, BFI London, and Busan. In 2024, she won the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival with the film “Vermiglio”.
Delpero was awarded the Women in Motion Young Talent Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2020. Her career is characterized by a strong commitment to telling human and social stories through cinema.
In 2024, she won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival for her film “Vermiglio,” a significant milestone in her career. A few weeks later, “Vermiglio” was selected as Italy’s entry for the 2025 Oscars in the Best International Feature Film category, further recognizing her talent and the quality of her work on an international level.
